Options Dialog

You can change record settings by clicking "View > Options..." to activate Options Dialog. There are three pages in Options Dialog: "Recorder", "Encoder", and "More".


Recorder Options

In Recorder page, you can define Record Options, Region to Capture, Record Hotkey and the Output Folder for Auto Save Recordings




Record Audio
If checked, the audio will be recorded with the video when recording.


Capture Mouse Cursor
If checked, the mouse cursor will be recorded, otherwise it will not. This is useful sometimes when you need to record and make a training video.


Hide When Recording
If checked, Total Screen Recorder will be hidden when start recording. You may click the icon in the system tray to activate it again.


Blink When Recording
If checked, there will show a border frame outside of the recording area, and it is blinking to show that the it is being recorded.


Auto Save Recordings
If checked, the video streaming will be recorded to the Default Output Folder without asking, and the file will be named with current date time automatically.
For example, if current date time is 2006-2-10 20:05:42, and the output type is AVI, then the file name will be "2006_02_10_20_05_42.avi".


Record Hotkey
Define the hot key for start/stop and pause/resume recording.


Define Region Before Record
If checked, it will ask user to define a region to capture each time when recording start.


Select Window Before Record
If checked, you can drag the mouse cursor onto destination window to select the window area when recording start.


Full Screen
If checked, the recording region will be the whole screen.


Fixed Size
If checked, you may click "Define Fixed Size" button and select "Custom Size" from the drop down menu to drag and drop an area as the fixed size for later recording. You can also select one standard size from the drop down menu.


Fixed Region
If checked, you may click "Define Fixed Region" button and select "Custom Region" from drop down menu to drag and drop a fixed area for later recording. You can also select one standard size from the drop down menu to define the fixed region.


Left, Top, Width, Height
The value of Left, Top, Width and Height for "Fixed Region" and "Fixed Size". If "Fixed Size" is checked, the value of Left and Top will be ignored.


Output Folder for Auto Save Recordings
Click "Browse" button to define the output folder for "Auto Save Recordings". When "Auto Save Recordings" is checked, the video streaming will be recorded to the Default Output Folder without asking, and the file will be named with current date time automatically.



Encoder Options

In Encoder page, you can define the output video type to AVI / WMV / SWF / FLV, and you can change the rates for playback.




AVI (only available in Standard and Gold version)
If checked, video streaming will be saved into an AVI file, which can be played by most video players. AVI video size will be same to original screen captured.

WMV (only available in Standard and Gold version)
Set output file to WMV, which can be played by Windows Media Player. WMV video size will be the value defined in the wmv profile you selected.

SWF(only available in Flash and Gold version)
Set output file to SWF, which can be played in web browser. SWF video size is specified by size settings.

FLV(only available in Flash and Gold version)
Set output file to FLV, which can be played in video website. FLV video size is specified by size settings.

Playback Rates
It specifies how many frames are played back per second. A higher value means a smoother playback, and more CPU usage. Typical values of 5 - 20 frames per second are adequate for most purposes.


More Options

In More page, you can set hotkey for Sneak Mode, and change settings for Computer Usage Log.




Sneak Mode
Under sneak mode, main window and tray icon will be invisible. You can only press the hotkey to turn on or turn off sneak mode.


Computer Usage Log
Check "Capture Screen Activities in Sneak Mode on Windows Start Up" to log computer usage. The recorder will be launched automatically on windows start up, and capture screen in sneak mode.

If you just want to record screen on next time windows start up, you should check "Next Time Only".

If you want to record screen every time on windows start up, you should check "Every Time".

You can also specify a playback rates for computer usage log recording. If you set it to "Default", the recorder will use the setting in Encoder page. It's highly recommended to set a playback rates under 10 fps to lower the CPU usage.

Note:
If you change record options when recorder is working, the modifications won't be applied until recording is stopped.

Left, Top, Width, Height
